The Swedish Prince by Karina Halle ~ Review & Swoon Thursday (@MetalBlonde)

The Swedish Prince was such an entertaining read that I devoured quickly. Maggie and Viktor were a great couple, and deserved to find happiness together. They had both suffered the loss of a loved one, but inevitably found one another to help recover! You should get this one and find out how good it is for yourself!

I never believed in fairy-tales.

Never held out for Prince Charming.

Growing up poor in small-town California as the oldest of six siblings, I knew I would never ride off into the sunset with anyone. That was even more apparent when a senseless tragedy took the lives of my parents, forcing me to become the sole guardian of our dysfunctional household at the mere age of twenty-three.

Then a fateful encounter literally brought Prince Charming to my doorstep.

At first I thought Viktor was just your average businessman passing through, albeit obscenely handsome, six-foot-five, blue-eyed, and mysteriously rich.

But soon I discovered the truth behind Viktor’s façade.

Beneath his quiet, enigmatic gaze and cocky charm, is a man who is running away from who he really is. A role he’d rather not fulfill.

He is Viktor of House Nordin, His Royal Highness, The Crown Prince of Sweden.

Yet uncovering Viktor’s secret was only the first step.

I didn’t expect to fall in love with him.

I didn’t expect to have my whole life turned upside down.

When you’re from two different worlds, can your hearts meet somewhere in the middle?

Or do happily-ever-afters only exist in fairy-tales?

I was browsing Amazon looking for something a bit lighter and fun when I came across this new release from Karina Halle, so I grabbed it immediately. I mean, who doesn't dream of falling for a guy who happens to be a Prince? We've all done that at some time, right? So of course I devoured this read quickly.

Maggie was a real gem; after losing her parents she stepped up and became the guardian of her siblings. It was a bit of a tough ride as they were all quite young, but they seemed to be coping. Maggie and Viktor's initial meeting was hilarious, and the second/third one was just as amusing. I could see these two had a serious connection, and it wasn't long before they started exploring the chemistry that was brewing between them.

I enjoyed they way this story unfolded, and how mature the characters seemed to be. They were both adults and even though they had misunderstandings, they seemed to work through them most of the time. Life had taken a tragic turn for both of them, so they understood each other when it came to feeling loss and heartache. When they were together, I could tell they were meant to be, and I just hoped they could get past the whole Prince-being-a-King-one-day thing.

Although there was a sad element to this story, it was otherwise quite the fun read that I hoped for. Karina Halle created a cast of characters that I adored and I enjoyed watching them all grow. The story was entertaining and it had a touch of drama that would put doubt in any girl's mind. Maggie and Viktor were perfect together and despite the hurdles I was glad to see the way it turned out for them. I really do hope to visit this world again, I'm sure Magnus, the Crown Prince of Norway deserves his own story!

I loved the way Maggie spoke to Viktor in the first quote, but the second one made me melt... swoon!

“... But you… you Viktor, you are a prince in every way shape and form. You embody the word, you are selfless and kind and proud and smart and noble and you care, more than anything, you care. You’re the prince that every girl had a fantasy about but you’re more than that, because you’re real. You’re so real. And you’re here right now and you’re with me and I can’t… I can’t thank you enough.”

“Do you know what it means when I call you mitt liv, mitt allt? Min äiskling?”
A lump forms in my throat and the air around us thickens.
“What?” I whisper after a beat.
I’ve translated it.
I know.
But I want to hear him say it in my language.
Maybe then I’ll finally believe it.
“It means, you are my life and you are my everything and you are my love,” he says gently. “You have shaken me to my very soul, rattled the bars around my heart, and I am yours, Maggie, I am yours.”
