Kensington Worth had a vision for her senior year. It involved her best friends, her posh private school in downtown Chicago and time alone with her piano until her audition was perfected, a guaranteed ticket into the best music programs in the world.

Instead, a nightmare took over.

It didn’t happen all at once, but her life unraveled quickly—a tiny thread that evil somehow kept pulling until everything precious was taken from her. She was suddenly living miles away from her old life, trapped in an existence she didn’t choose—one determined to destroy her from the inside, leaving only hate and anger behind. It didn’t help that her neighbor, the one whose eyes held danger, was enjoying every second of her fall.

Owen Harper was trouble, his heart wild and his past the kind that’s spoken about in whispers. And somehow, his path was always intertwined with Kensington’s, every interaction crushing her, ruining her hope for any future better than her now. Sometimes, though, what everyone warns is trouble, is exactly what the heart needs. Owen Harper was consumed with darkness, and it held onto his soul for years. When Kensington looked at him, she saw a boy who’d gotten good at taking others down when they threatened his carefully balanced life. But the more she looked, the more she saw other things too—good things…things to admire.

Things…to love. Things that made her want to be reckless.

And those things…they were the scariest of all.

I decided to get the audio for Wild Reckless after I won it a while ago. It was a long book to listen to, but was totally worth the time and I'm glad that I did it. I enjoyed the narration by Laura Darrell; she was easy to listen to and delivered the story perfectly. It was a difficult journey for a lot of the characters in the story, especially for Kensington and Owen. It was a journey of self discovery for both of them as they find new paths in their lives.

Kensington and her parents moved to Woodstock, and she wasn't happy with the change. She made some new friends at school, but Owen, the boy next door, would do anything he could to make life uncomfortable for her. When her world is rocked again, she escapes by jumping into Owen's car and after a difficult start, they become close. They both begin to open up to one another and together they begin to heal.

There is so much more that happens throughout the story, as both Kensington and Owen face more challenges towards finding peace and happiness. They gel well together and encourage each other to succeed. Kensington is an amazing pianist who lost her passion, and Owen tried to entice her to try it again. Owen was close to his family and will do anything he can for them. He's this amazingly passionate person who hides behind his gruffness and closed off personality. I loved how Kensington was able to get under his skin so we could see how great he was.

I thoroughly enjoyed my first Ginger Scott read. She captivated me from the Prologue, when my heart shattered for Owen as a boy. I then got to know Kensington, seeing her get through all the challenges thrown at her by her family and friends. I saw Owen through her eyes and to see the shift in him when he opened up to Kensington. The journey was difficult, but I could see these two belonged together. I'm looking forward to the next book and getting Andrew's story – Owen's younger brother.

This was a big moment for Owen as he tried to tell Kensi his feelings and what his fears were.

“I wanted you to meet him because he’s important to me…and so are you…because I love you. I hurt you…because I love you…because I’m fucked up, my family’s fucked up, and my problems ruin everyone they touch. I don’t know how to stop them, how to separate the good things from all the shit in my life. I ruin everyone I touch. People leave me…they leave me—” Owen’s breath catches, stuttering, his eyes turning redder as he talks. “People in my life…they die, and if they aren’t dead yet, they look for ways to kill themselves. And all I can do is watch.”
“Owen,” I whisper, my hands wrapping around his wrists. His head falls forward to mine.
“I love you, Kensi,” he says, his lips grazing mine softly, before he pulls his mouth away again, leaving his head against mine. “I love you…but I will suffocate you. Drown you. Loving me…it will kill you.”
