Tempting by Alex Lucian ~ Review & Quote-tastic (@AuthorALucian)

I pre-ordered Tempting back in November and was impressed by the first book by Alex Lucian. It was good, but unfortunately I wasn't blown away.

His body climbing over mine.

My teeth biting his neck.

His scent on my skin.
My nails carving a path down his back.
His commands whispered in my ear.
All of my senses filled with him.
I knew it was bad. But I craved more.

It had begun innocently enough, bumping into one another in a crowded Boston bar. What followed that night had been anything but innocent.

Because I'd known, even as he'd slid inside of me, that he was my professor. I'd pursued him, a predator stalking its prey.

And he didn't know I was his student.
But he would.

Author's note: This isn't a jail bait student/teacher novel with a butterflies-in-the-belly kind of romance. The characters portrayed in this novel are consenting adults with functioning brains. If curse words, sex, and hard ass college professors with secrets offend you, move right along.

I like student/teacher reads and I was hoping to really love Tempting, but sadly it turned out to be just an ok read for me. In the beginning I thought that Adele was a bit stalkerish! The way she tried to pursue Nathan after their one night stand, flaunting herself in front of him and coming on strong really annoyed me. I found it hard to connect with her.

Nathan I liked a bit more though. He tried to be stern when it came to Adele, and put distance between them, but she was a bit relentless. His story actually crushed me and I really wanted him to get the second chance that he deserved. His father was a piece of work; he’s more concerned about himself and appearances, and I wanted Nathan to grow a set instead of being walked over.

It soon became obvious that Adele and Nathan had more in common than either of them realised. Nathan shattered the carefully constructed walls that Adele had erected, and showed how vulnerable she really was. When they were together, there was no denying the chemistry they both had, but their indecisiveness and outside factors kept tearing them apart. I didn’t understand the brother-in-laws appearance… it just seemed to be just a little bump in the road that made no impact, and kind of just thrown in there.

In the end it turned out to be a sweet read, and both characters grew a lot throughout the story. Nathan dealt with his past, let his guilt fade and was ready for a new life with Adele. I liked that Adele decided to become her own person and worked through her issues without relying on others to do it for her. I didn’t like her father or sister very much, they seemed to be very controlling, but her mother was sweet and I could see that she loved Adele so much. Adele and Nathan both deserved to find happiness and even though it took time and plenty of heartache, I was satisfied with how it all ended.

This moment made me snicker... it was exactly like what I was thinking at the start of the book!

“Because you’re intimidating as fuck. When you want something, you don’t just go after it—you stalk it. You grab it by the balls and demand its attention. You’re like that bitch from Fatal Attraction, without the crazy.”
