A second chance at first love...

Five years ago, Kat Harper fell into a dizzying summer romance with her brother's best friend Bryan. It was a mad, crazy love full of kisses all through the night -- but he broke her heart and she had to move on. Five years later, Kat is finishing her graduate degree and building her business as a jewelry designer, when Bryan, head of his own successful company, walks back into her life. Bryan has been assigned to Kat as her new business mentor and the rules are clear. No hanky panky permitted. Kat can handle that because she's totally over him... right? Except, he still makes her laugh, and he remembers all the things she likes. Not to mention that he's even more handsome now than he was then. Then there's the spark between them -- the simply undeniable chemistry, and the tender ways he shows he still cares for her. Can they resist each other the second time around or will first love trump all?

This is the first book that I have read of Lauren Blakeley's and it was a sweet read that I consumed quickly. It is quite fast paced and took me into the world of mixing romance with business.

Both characters have their own businesses. Kat is into making necklaces, where Bryan is into men's accessories. When Bryan becomes Kats mentor, they try not to let their past relationship affect their work but it becomes difficult as they remember how good things were when they were together.

Kat tries to show that she is over Bryan, but the more time they spend together it becomes evident that she's not. She has pushed her feelings down and tried to forget them. However, the more time she spends with Bryan, the quicker her old feelings resurface. I liked Kat a lot; she is a very independent girl and is on her way to be quite successful. Her business is really taking off and she is starting to branch out into stores. She is constantly thinking of her parents business and wants to help them out of their slump. She is just a nice girl who thinks of others, not just herself.

Bryan is very successful businessman too. It appears that he has moved on with his life since he split with Kat all those years ago. I could see early that he was still attracted to Kat and knew it would be a matter of time. I just wanted to know why ended things the way he did. He is a very likeable character too, hot, smart and successful… Who wouldn’t want that?

The issue I had with the book was how easily Kat let Bryan back in. He broke her heart five years ago and he wiggled his way back in far too quickly. I would've made him work a little harder for it, that's for sure. Overall, it was a nice read. The chemistry between this couple was rekindled and they definitely work well together.  I was introduced to some interesting secondary characters and am excited to see some have their own books. I'm keen to check out more in this series, that's for sure!

It sounds like Kat has a forgiving heart, but maybe a little too forgiving when it comes to Bryan. I'm glad you still enjoyed it, despite the issues you had with it.

  4. I like when a character fights to let others in, challenges in a way. I love that sort of tension! And I hate when a character lets another character in way too easily. But this one does sound like a cute read! Though not sure I'd pick it up anytime soon, I LOVED your review! :D

  6. OOo love when they have some history though I am a bit blood thirsty and like the naughty party to have to work to make things right. I've had this on my tablet for so long. Might give it a go sooner rather than later. I don't read blurbs and had a totally different image in my head for this one. lol

  7. I have at least 3 Blakely books on my kindle that I need to read, but I will definitely keep this one in mind too. I don't like it when our heroines forgive our heroes too easily either, so we'll see ;)

  8. Yeah she did. I would've held more of a grudge. Maybe it is true love....

  15. Woot! Yay for a fellow blood thirsty reader girl! Nope don't read em. I go in blind on probably 99% of my reads. I only read the blurb once I'm sitting down to write my review to check and see if anything will be spoilery or if it's in the blurb already :)

  17. I'm with you - when someone does something really wrong, I want the other character to be able to forgive them, but it shouldn't be simple! :-)

  19. They do have that attraction from the beginning, especially because they fought it before. You should like this one, but I enjoyed the Thrill of It series more!

I probably will like it. I'll read any book with that guy in the front. He's always with the same girl, I've noticed that they're together in a lot of covers with different clothes so it makes me think they're together. Oh did you see the Lux series video they made together, it's a scene of them kissing but let me tell you it is hot.

  21. Yeah, I've seen them a lot too. I will have to check out that trailer!!

I have this book and a few other in the series but I haven't read them yet :/
I'm glad you liked it, that means I'll like it too haha. Sometimes it might be better when characters get together soon rather than later cause I hate reading a book where the characters spend the whole time avoiding each other and thier feelings. I say the whole 'Get together already!' So it might be a good thing in this book :)
