The Blurb

This book continues the story of Jazz and Sebastian's fated love affair. Sebastian abandoned Jazz at the end of book one and returns to his home world of Aidensdein, which was burned to the ground when Jazz escaped from his nemesis Brennan. He is kept busy rebuilding the city and restoring order to his people.

Unfortunately, Jazz is left alone to transform into a part-vampire and deliver their child on her own. Seb, of course does not know that she is even pregnant when he leaves her. As Jazz tries to survive the changes to her own body and raise a young vampire, she finds herself being drawn into a relationship with someone who looks very much like Seb. Can she trust this stranger, or should she be wary?

My Review

This was a great sequel in the Protector series and I really enjoyed it. It begins with Jazz and she quickly fills us in on what she has done since Seb abandoned her; finished TAFE, moved into her own apartment, found a casual job for a newspaper she is able to do from home and gave birth all alone. She is now raising a half human/vampire baby by herself and they both need to nourish their vampire sides regularly.

Jazz decides to take up some self defence courses so that she will be able to protect herself and her son if the need arises. At the local martial arts centre she meets Ryan and he has a lot of similarities in appearance to Seb. It takes a bit of time for their relationship to develop, but he shows interest in the progress that she makes, decides to personally train Jazz and finally asks her out. It just happens to be the exact time that Seb returns, but he remains at a respectable distance as he thinks that Jazz has moved on.

Once Seb and Jazz reunite, they are able to work out their issues but not everyone is happy and some are even seeking revenge. This is where the real action begins and true friendships are formed. There are also a few twists and turns thrown in that will strengthen the bond of this couple.

I really like Seb, he really loves Jazz and only left her because the people from his planet needed him more. In He Came For Me, the city was burnt to the ground and Seb’s father has now had a mental breakdown, so Seb needed to take charge and rebuild the city and keep his people united. He is loyal and kind and had every intention of returning to Jazz as soon as he could.

Jazz has grown into a fine woman and mother, but I thought she was a bit too quick to forgive Seb. He may have had his reasons for being away for almost 2 years, but he still should have to work for her affection again. Once they got back together, they couldn’t get enough of each other and made up for lost time!! Even though he should’ve worked harder for it, it still was beautiful to see them reunite so easily and their fires still burned for one another.

One aspect I really liked of the book was the Vampire rituals that were performed. There are a number of them conducted in this book and I like how the author did them. Combining vampire blood, ancient symbols and chanting, I was able to imagine the setting and how it was being performed. I thought that these rituals were unique and gave greater depth to the plot!!

He Came For Mine was a faster paced read than the first book in the series, and the storyline flowed easily. Some of the timeline was glossed over as nothing special happened during that time, but I think all of the important details were included in the book. We are introduced to new enemies, we see what a great man Seb has turned out to be and that he will do anything for his family. I enjoyed every moment of reading it and I was happy to see the book finish as it did.
