Goodreads Summary

Rivanna Rivers wants to find the father who abandoned her, leaving her saddled with the same name as a local tributary.

Matt Breeden wants to avoid going to jail, but that's difficult when your politically avaricious family invites scandal and you support them with a booming moonshine business.

Annabelle Freeman just wants to make it through "Back-to-School Night" without anyone discovering that she has buried her grandfather in the garden.

Disparate lives intersect and while one teen grows up, another gets the chance to enjoy her childhood and the adult in her life learns about the responsiblities of fatherhood.

If this is only the prequel, I can't wait to read the first book!! This was such a fascinating read. It had me drawn in from the very start.

The story takes place in Gloucester, Virginia, where politics are strong, kids are at school and there are people who still make a living from the production of Moonshine.

Two best friends have their lives altered in unrelated circumstances. From here the story merges in with other residents and we learn their backgrounds and how they connect to the other characters in the town that are featured in the book as well.

Sofie has done a superb job writing this prequel. I enjoyed every minute while reading it; I was always looking forward to what was going to happen next. It has a great plot and I love the mix of characters that are in it! And also some of them appear to have a hint of some sort of supernatural abilities (think the TV show Ordinary Family)...... I thought that this story has been set up for what's to come in the future and has shaped the way characters will be in the rest of the series.

And to throw in a quote from a Bangles song!! Fantastic!! Well done Sofie!!
